If you are working through the DOT return-to-duty (RTD) process, you will pay for several different things from different providers. This guide separates them so you know what to expect from WorkOccMed and what comes from your SAP.
At WorkOccMed: the directly observed return-to-duty drug test is $159.95. Each directly observed follow-up drug test is $135.
What you pay WorkOccMed for
- Return-to-duty drug test, directly observed: $159.95. This is the test you take after your SAP says you are eligible. It must be a directly observed collection, and the result must be negative before you can return to safety-sensitive duty.
- Follow-up drug tests, directly observed: $135 each. These are unannounced tests ordered under the follow-up testing plan your SAP sets.
What you pay other providers
- The SAP evaluation and the SAP follow-up evaluation
- Education or treatment the SAP recommends
These prices are set by the SAP and treatment providers. WorkOccMed does not set or collect them. Ask your SAP for their fees before you start.
Why observed collection matters
Return-to-duty and follow-up drug tests must use a directly observed collection, so the order has to be placed correctly from the start. Ordering through WorkOccMed sets this up for you.
How to order
- Complete the SAP evaluation and any education or treatment the SAP requires.
- When the SAP says you are eligible, order your return-to-duty test online.
- Take the test at a collection site. The result is reviewed by an MRO, and a negative result is reported to the Clearinghouse.
To see all six steps, read the return-to-duty process.
